We believe in the Ready-To-Go model for businesses and think that it is worth to go the extra mile to serve IT professionals and deliver services with a few mouse clicks. In line with this model, we are launching the Virtual Appliance for SMBs.
From the name virtual appliance, one can gather that it is a pre-configured software appliance which is available for a virtual machine (VM). It is bundled as a package which consists of software along with the operating system, available as a file which can be booted on any hypervisor, ready for usage within minutes. Vembu virtual appliance is an image consisting of all subsidiary elements required to deploy the Vembu BDR server. At present, we support the virtual appliance for Ubuntu 12.04. Deploying Vembu BDR backup service in VMs involves some sequential steps to get the server up and running for production.
No Deployment Hassles:
Generally, when physically deploying a backup server, any setback in installing the packages like Vembu BDR software, MySQL, ODBC connector and MongoDB will result in unnecessary delays. But when opting for virtual appliance you can bypass the entire installation process by downloading virtual appliance from our webiste. This is available as a Virtualization Format(ovf) file – a global format that enables instant boot up from any hypervisor. After downloading the OVF file, you can upload the file to ESXi server and boot the virtual machine in a Plug and Play manner. These OVF file packages also consists of vmx file which describes the VM configurations like CPU, RAM, Network Interface etc as shown in the figure below:
Thus you can just boot the VMs without spending your valuable time in setting up the configuration for a virtual appliance. You can deploy backup servers in a fraction of minutes and make it available for backups initiated from your clients. When it comes to disaster recovery you can just launch an instance with the help of backup server VM snapshot, if one was made available in the ESXi server.
Advantages:
- Cost efficient in comparison to deploying physical backup servers
- User friendly configurations for production setup.
- High Availability due to instant recovery of the backup server during a disaster.
Well, without taking more time, you can get your hands wet by giving a trial after downloading the Virtual Appliance!
