A quick overview of the highlights of BDR v2.1:
Hyper-V CBT:
Vembu’s all new Hyper-V CBT driver makes incremental backups run 5X faster, by only tracking the changed blocks. Hyper-V CBT backups can instantly boot Hyper-V VM backups at the time of a disaster.
VMware Direct SAN Access Mode:
This feature helps in providing faster data transfer with less resource usage using direct SAN transport mode. This is achieved by:
- Having commonly shared Storage-Area-Network (SAN) for BDR client and ESXi hosts.
- Having VM files (VMWare) on SAN connected via Fiber Channel (FC) or Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI).
Backup Verification:
Vembu BDR has the simplest backup verification process for image (disk image, VHD/Hyper-V and VMDK/VMWare) backups. The process includes running periodic tests on:
- Mount Check (by mounting backup).
- Check Disk (chkdsk).
- Integrity Check (snapshots of boot page).
- This process is carried out when certain counts of a backup are completed, to ensure backup stability during the restore.
Download as VHDX:
Vembu BDR extends its supported disk formats with VHDX restore. Other Vembu supported formats for restore include: VHD, VMDK and IMG.
Greater than 2TB Disk Support:
Vembu provides backup support for disk sizes of greater than 2TB and with the newly extended support format VHDX, you can now restore those disks easily.
VMware Disk Level Restore:
Vembu BDR now supports disk level restore for VMWare backups, instead of full VM restores. Now users can restore specific disks to same or desired VMs during the recovery process.
Persistent Instant Boot:
An extended support for backups on instantly booted VMs is now available in BDR. With this feature, a user can resume their work where it was left off in an instantly booted VM machine. Options to download image files with these VM changes is also available for users.
