1) Briefly describe your business, including size and location.
Digital Information Nordic AB is a Swedish hosting provider specialized in highly customized SaaS solutions for medium sized businesses. We service about 200 customers from three datacenters located in Sweden.
2) What was the problem that you were trying to address with respect to your data backup?
Our customer demand is extremely differentiate, backup scheduling is a maze and we run a mix of almost all operating- and file systems known to man in our datacenters. Vembu BDR was the only software that could cope with the technology mix and at the same time deliver extremely robust operation, performance and affordable pricing.
3) What alternatives were you considering before nailing down on Vembu BDR?
We considered and tested several platforms and concepts before settling with Vembu BDR, this included remote backup software from Carbonite, Symantec and Acronis as well as disk and tape based solutions from primarily Seagate, Synology and NetApp.
4) Why did you choose Vembu BDR?
The answer is simple, the first and last thing you need from a backup software is continuous operation and restorable data, since 2008 Vembu has never disappointed us once.
5) What do you like most about Vembu BDR?
It just works, our 200 customers benefit from the fact that it just goes on and on and does exactly what it should 365/7/24.
6) How did you go about implementing Vembu BDR for your business?
We are running 10 primary backup servers and 3 replication servers spread over different locations. Data storage resides on dual SANs. Interconnections are ordinary 1 gbit/s copper cabling. We maintain everything using the BDR NOC application. It looks and runs like a $400k setup, no one would guess it cost a tenth, much thanks to BDR.
7) How many machines at how many locations use Vembu BDR for data backup needs (currently / planned)?
10 primary backup servers, 3 replication servers, going for 12-14 primary servers during 2015.
8) Can you provide some quantifiable metrics on the success of your business related to your use of Vembu BDR?
Exact numbers are hard to extract since BDR is an integral part of our customer offer. However, backup services make up about a tenth of our current turnover, equaling to about $200k per year. More importantly, being able to offer a robust backup platform to our customers have enabled us to grow seamlessly and attract high-value customers that have had bad experiences from failing backup solutions.
