A simple task of storing backup data online can become simply onerous on slow or limited bandwidth. Transferring data over wire consumes not only time but also money.
With our latest release of Vembu BDR v2.1.1, customers need no longer worry about cost or time expenditures when it comes to storing their backup data. Vembu supports seeding backup server data over cloud with this release. You can get your backup server data replicated to a local disk and ship the local disk to Vembu to initiate a seed backup process.
Let us look at the steps involved in Importing backup data:
Import Process:
Sending request:
Send a request email to Vembu at vembu-support@vembu.com with the following details:
- Serial number of disk to be shipped. Make sure the disk meets storage device requirements.
- Approximate size of backup data in disk.
- Return address for shipping the disk back.
Receive shipping Bar Code:
The reply email from Vembu will include a PDF file with a signature barcode and complete instructions to ship the disk.
Replicate Backup data:
Replication is helpful in cases, where your backup server has huge amounts of backup data from multiple clients. All client data can be replicated to the same disk and data size can be up to 16TB.
Steps to complete on the Vembu BDR console for replication:
- Login to server console and go to ‘Server Management–>Cloud DR’
- Enable ‘Vembu Cloud DR status’ and choose region
- Configure ‘Replication Schedule Window’ if you need replication to be carried out during a specific time period. Note: Windows scheduling is not applicable for seeding process.
- Reply ‘Yes’ to ‘Do you want to ship the initial data’ and select attached disk to ‘Select Target Disk’.
- Save configuration.
- Once seeding is completed, disconnect external drive from BDR Server.
Ship the disk:
- Take a print out of the barcode received from Vembu support and paste it over the disk to be shipped.
- Follow shipping instructions in the PDF carefully.
- Make sure you also ship the power adapter and required cables for the disk.
- Upon receipt, data will be imported to your account in Vembu Cloud. An email notification detailing incurred chargeswill be sent out and the disk shipped back to the return address provided.
Seed backup is a one-time process. Once full backup is seeded, further incremental/additional full backups will be automatically replicated from the backup server to the cloud server over the Internet.
