Excellent Networks, Inc. has seen a noticeable increase in their bottom line since implementing OnlineBackup. They now have around 25 customer servers that store data offsite. There was an incident of server failure with a customer whose local backup was rendered useless due to water damage. However, Excellent Networks, Inc. was able to successfully restore the offsite data to an external hard drive and had the customer up and running within a day—practically saving their business.
Challenges
The majority of Excellent Networks, Inc. customers had been relying on onsite backup solutions for all their data protection needs. The company knew this was very risky and had concerns about the continuity of local businesses should disaster strike. The fact that El Paso was not in any recognized natural disaster zone was fueling customer complacency. Excellent Networks, Inc. decided to do something about this and invested a bit of time educating their customers about losses that can result from factors such as fire, theft or water damage. Once the full impact of data loss to their business was comprehensively laid out, customers slowly but surely began to see the value in migrating their data to an offsite solution.
Solution
Before deciding on Vembu OnlineBackup, Excellent Networks, Inc. considered other offsite vendors, such as Mozy and Carbonite. They even used Mozy for a while but the time and work involved in maintaining the product couldn’t be justified, given the weak margins. Also, most other products in the market at the time only offered file backup but what they really needed was a solution that would backup applications like Exchange and SQL. “Vembu was very easy to implement and rarely had any issues” replies Mark when asked why he chose Vembu OnlineBackup over other products.
The company implemented with the Vembu Service Provider Edition. They have two servers dedicated to backing up customer data to a local NAS device. They currently have three servers storing data with Vembu OnlineBackup
Mark Luna and his team started steadily migrating customers to Vembu OnlineBackup at the rate of two per month and had them all converted by the end of 2014.
