Re IP Mapping
In VM replication, IP mapping refers to the process of assigning IP addresses to replicas of virtual machines in a disaster recovery scenario. This is done to ensure that the replicated VMs have unique and identifiable IP addresses, even in the event of a failover to a disaster recovery site.
There may be circumstances in which you use distinct IP addresses in source and target. During replication, the source VM’s settings will be updated in the target VM.
If you perform a failover to the replica machine, the IP address you’ve set up in the source may not be accessible in the target area. Re-IP Mapping in this scenario offers various mapping rule combinations to configure your replica. When you execute the failover process, the replica machine registry will be updated with the IP rule you’ve configured.
To add a rule, follow these steps;
- Enable the Network Re-IP Mapping option
- Click the “Add Rule” option, which will open a pop-up window
- Assign a Rule Name
- Enter the IP address and subnet mask of the source VM
- Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway of the target VM
- Specify the preferred and alternate DNS server
- Click “Save” to save the Re-IP Mapping rule
You can edit an existing rule using the “edit” option or remove a rule using the “remove” option.
