Flexible Backup Scheduling

BDRSuite for VMware allows users to define flexible multiple backup schedules for each backup job. For mission critical server, a backup schedule should be configured according to the requirement of your backup and disaster recovery plan.

Incremental backup Scheduling

An incremental backup is a type of backup that only copies data that has changed or been created since the previous backup activity. BDRSuite backs up only the changed blocks of the VMs since the last full backup during the incremental backup schedule. The incremental backup can be scheduled using BDRSuite at any of the following intervals.

Manually

The incremental backup will not run automatically, instead users can navigate to the Backup Jobs and manually run the incremental backups on demand.

One Time

The backup will run only once at the time you specify. Following that, no incremental backups will be processed.

Every Few Hours/Minutes

In the Every Few Hours/Min option, the minimum frequency for running incremental backups is 15 minutes. By default, all seven days of the week are chosen. If you don’t want your backup to run everyday, select only the days you want the incremental backup to run.

Daily

You can specify the days and number of times the incremental backups should run on a daily basis in the daily option. You can schedule incremental backups to run up to 5 times per day, and you must specify the time for each incremental backup.

Weekly

In the weekly option, you must specify the day and time when you want the incremental backups to run. You can only run one incremental backup per day in the weekly incremental schedule.

Monthly

You must specify the months, a day in the month, and a time on the selected day to run the incremental backup in the monthly option.

After Backup

Enter the name of the previously created backup job. As a result, the backup job will begin immediately after the selected backup job schedule has been successfully completed.

Synthetic Full Backup Scheduling

Running an additional full backup on a regular basis is time-consuming and requires more network bandwidth. In these cases, you can use BDRSuite’s synthetic full backup option as an alternative. Rather than creating a new full backup on a regular basis by taking a snapshot of the source VM, BDRSuite creates a synthetic full backup by merging full and subsequent incremental backups in the repository without running another full backup. You can save the backup job without enabling the Synthetic merge if you do not want to perform a synthetic full backup and it is disabled for Manually and One Time backup incremental schedules.

The Synthetic Full Backup can be scheduled using BDRSuite at any of the following intervals.

Weekly

If you are selecting the synthetic full merge to happen on a weekly basis, then you have to select a day and start time to run the synthetic merge. You can select one or more days in a week to run the synthetic merge.

Monthly

If you are selecting the synthetic full merge to happen on a monthly basis, then you have to select the month, select a day in the month and start time to run the synthetic merge. You can select one or more months in a year to run the synthetic merge.

Additional Full Backup Scheduling

To comply with your organization’s policy, you might occasionally need to create a regular full backup on a weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis. Additionally, configuring a backup job to perform one full backup followed by forever incremental backups is not great practice. You can adhere to your standards by creating a full backup on a regular basis with BDRSuite’s Additional full backup option. The additional full backup option is disabled for Manually and One Time backup incremental schedules.

The Synthetic Full Backup can be scheduled using BDRSuite at any of the following intervals.

Daily

If you are selecting the additional full backups to run on a daily basis, then you have to select the start time to run the additional full backups.

Weekly

If you are selecting the synthetic full merge to happen on a weekly basis, then you have to select a day and start time to run the synthetic merge. You can select one or more days in a week to run the additional full backups.

Monthly

If you are selecting the synthetic full merge to happen on a monthly basis, then you have to select the month, select a day in the month and start time to run the synthetic merge. You can select one or more months in a year to run the additional full backups.
