Synthetic Full Backup
Running an additional full backup periodically is resource-intensive and requires more network bandwidth. In these situations, you can use the synthetic full backup option as an alternative.
BDRSuite lets you enable and create synthetic full backup by merging full and subsequent incremental in the repository without having to run additional full backup periodically by creating a snapshot of the source VM.
Key Benefits
Reduced Backup Window
Synthetic full backups take up less time to complete compared to traditional full backups, as they only require incremental backups to be processed.
Reduced Network bandwidth
Synthetic full backup does not use network resources as it is combining the data of the previous full & incremental backup directly in the backup repository.
Improved Recovery Time
Synthetic full backups make it easier to recover data in the event of a disaster or data loss, as the complete backup can be restored quickly and efficiently.
How it works
Synthetic full backup creates a new full backup by combining an initial full backup and subsequent incremental backups at the specified time intervals.
- When a synthetic full backup is scheduled, BDRSuite begins combining the last available full backup with all the subsequent incremental backups to create a synthetic full backup.
- Once the synthetic merge is completed, you can see the backup chain that contains an older full backup, followed by a set of incremental backups, and the newly created synthetic full backup.
