Backup VMs on Hyper-V Cluster
A Hyper-V cluster is a group of two or more servers running Microsoft Hyper-V. The servers in a Hyper-V cluster work together to provide high availability and load balancing for virtual machines (VMs). This means that if one of the servers in the cluster fails, the VMs running on that server can be automatically moved to another server in the cluster, with minimal downtime.
Prepare
To backup virtual machines (VMs) on a Hyper-V cluster using BDRSuite Backup Server, you can follow the steps below;
- Login to the BDRSuite Backup Server.
- Navigate to the Data Source -> Add Microsoft Hyper-V -> Hyper-V Clusters and click on Add the Microsoft Hyper-V button to add the Hyper-V host cluster to the BDRSuite by specifying the name of the cluster, and the credentials for an account with administrative access to the cluster.
- BDRSuite Delegation Service (BDS) will be installed on all the nodes of the cluster and the Hyper-V Cluster VMs are ready for backup & restore.
Backup
- Once the source is added you navigate to the Backup -> Configure Backup – Microsoft Hyper-V. Select the VMs that you want to backup and configure backup configuration options such as VM/Disk exclusion, backup schedule, retention policies etc.
- Run the backup.
- Monitor the backup jobs to ensure that they are running successfully using the backup reports.
Recovery
It’s important to note that you should validate the backup data regularly and perform periodic disaster recovery tests to ensure that the backup data can be restored successfully in case of a disaster. Also, you can perform integrity check from the BDRSuite Backup Server to ensure that backup is complete and reliable.
In the BDRSuite Backup Server, navigate to the Recovery -> Restore Backup Data.
All the backup jobs will be listed and you can click on the respective restore icon of the Hyper-V Cluster backup and initiate the restore process.
