Backup Storage Targets
BDRSuite supports a wide range of storage targets as backup repositories to securely store your backup data. BDRSuite supports both block storage and object storage as backup storage targets and provides you the flexibility to store and protect your critical data, regardless of their format.
- Block Storage – Local drives, DAS, NAS (NFS and CIFS) and SAN (iSCSI and FC)
- Object Storage – Amazon S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud, S3 Compatible storage – Wasabi, MinIO, Backblaze, etc
BDRSuite supports storing primary backup data, backup copy data and offsite copy data on both block storage and object based cloud storage.
Block Storage Repository
You can create block storage repositories using any of the following repository type options:
- Simple
- Scale Out
- Disk Rotation
Simple Repository
Choose this repository type if you are adding just a single storage volume as your storage target to the backup repository.
In the future, if this storage volume gets filled, to continue the incremental backup, either you need to extend the capacity of the storage volume manually or you need to move backup data to a new storage target that has a much higher storage capacity. So, before choosing this repository type, make sure you have enough storage capacity in the storage volume based on your requirements.
Scale Out Repository
Scale Out repository type is the cost-effective solution for growing backup environments. It provides the flexibility to add storage targets without any constraints when business demands.
Choose this repository type if you are pooling multiple storage volumes as a single storage destination in a scale-out configuration. Once the first storage volume gets filled, the backup data will be stored in the next storage volume automatically.
You can add new storage volumes to an existing backup repository anytime and expand its storage capacity without breaking the incremental backup chain.
Disk Rotation Repository
Disk Rotation Repository is one of the most popular strategies in which the backup data is stored on an external media device, such as a USB stick or external hard drive. Usually, two or more external media devices are used to set up the Backup Disk Rotation, and these external media used for disk rotation are swapped periodically based on the backup/data protection policy such as weekly or monthly.
Each external media device contains the full backup copy and the subsequent incremental backups. The disconnected media devices are generally kept in different physical locations so that they can also be used during data loss or DR scenarios.
Disk Rotation repository are selected and used in the following cases such as:
- Store a copy of business-critical backup data separately on different media that stays offline
- Comply with the access control policy, where data has to be stored only on authorized devices
Object Storage Repository
Object storage provides a secure and scalable solution for businesses to store their backups, allowing them to access their data from anywhere and anytime.
BDRSuite offers seamless integration with object storage, so you can easily store your backups in the cloud. With BDRSuite, you can leverage the power of object storage to create a cost-effective and scalable backup solution. BDRSuite enables you to add and use your own cloud as backup repository.
