Step-by-Step Google Workspace Backup Configuration

Step 1: Download and Install BDRSuite Backup Server. Refer to the installation instructions here

Step 2: Login to the BDRSuite Backup Server and Navigate to Microsoft 365/Google Workspace.

Step 3: Configure Backup Repository:

Navigate to Backup Server Tile -> Backup Repository. Configure a Backup Repository – either block (NAS,SAN, DAS, etc) or object-based cloud storage (S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud, S3 Compatible like Wasabi, MinIO, etc) based on where you want to store the backup data.

Step 4: Add Google Workspace Organization:

As a first add the Google Workspace Organization that you want to backup. Go to Data Sources -> Add Google Workspace. Provide the organization details and save it to the backup server.

Step 5: Basic Job Details:

Navigate to Backup -> Configure Backup -> Google Workspace. Enter the backup job name, select the type of backup repository you want to use: Block or Object storage and then select the target storage to store the backup data.

Step 6: Organization & Backup Objects Selection:

BDRSuite Backup for Google Workspace free edition only supports backup of User Mailbox up to 10 users. Choose User Mailbox and proceed to the next page.

Step 7: User Mailbox:

Select the domain from which you want to backup the user. Then select the users for backup (Free Edition supports only backup for 10 Users). Then, choose the type of data to configure backup – Mails, Calendars and Contacts.

Step 8: Scheduling:

Configure incremental backup on an hourly, daily, or weekly basis. Also you can find the advanced schedule settings which allow you to set number of retry attempts if the backup is interrupted and you can also configure wait time between every attempt.

Step 9: Settings:

1) Compression: It will compress the original data and store it in the backup repository. So, you to find more storage only if you have enabled the option.

2) Retention: You can turn on retention to set how many versions or days of backup data should be retained. All data will be retained if retention is disabled.

Step 10: Review:

Finally, review the backup configuration and save the job. The job will start to run as per the backup schedule.

How to Recover the Backed-up Google Workspace User Data

1. Navigate to Recovery Tab. Click the ‘Restore’ button alongside the backup job from which you want to restore the backed-up Google Workspace.

2. Choose the restore type as “Restore User Mailbox”

3. Select the domain from which you want to restore data. Then, select restore point. You can choose the required time stamp from which you need to recover the backed-up data.

4. User Mailbox

Choose one of the following options and select the data to be restored: either the complete Mailbox (choosing the entire User Mailbox, which includes Mails, Contacts, Calendars, and OneDrive), or Mails or OneDrive, Calendars, or Contacts.

5. Restore Options
There are two ways to restore your data. Restore data to the same user or a different user. Once you’ve made your selection, you can decide whether to restore all emails from a certain period range to the specified emails.

6. Review and Restore

After carefully reviewing your restore information, click to restore. Your restore process will begin.
