About Cyngor Sir CEREDIGION County Council:
Ceredigion is a small rural county in Wales with 50 schools with around 10,000 pupils. 48 of these schools enter into a service level agreement with customer’s team for the provision of ICT services. They are a very proactive team who provide development as well as support and pride themselves on delivering a cost effective, yet complete ICT solution to support 21st century learning. They aim to give their pupils the best possible access to ICT and modern learning opportunities.
Budgets are always tight and they go the extra mile to structure and design their solutions to build in economies of scale to remove unnecessary redundancy to get the best total cost of ownership. As such they use a single AD and wide area network across all schools to deliver a unified platform allowing sharing and partnership working across the schools.
Company challenge:
In order to reduce the redundancy and cost of equipment at each site the customer needed a centralized backup solution. They couldn’t rely on tapes and didn’t want too. Years of network support has shown the difficulty of managing local backups and for many sites they wouldn’t have on site technicians and needed an effective centralized management. They needed something that was simple, easy to monitor and could effectively backup user work to a centralized storage system.

They still use shadow copy for instant recovery but when they have whole server issues or complicated restores, Vembu has been there for them. They are also particularly impressed with the upgrade process. With around 60 servers to upgrade, this is all handled centrally from the web interface, so download once and it replicates the update in an easy manner.
