Managing copies of data in an offsite location is one of the crucial parts of any disaster recovery plan. One of VMware’s prominent vExpert Brandon Lee, in one of his recent articles, Configuring Off-site Disaster Recovery Copy, clearly points out that it is a very important element to have multiple copies of your data and not just on one site. Read this blog to know further about its significance.
During most times, the backup copies are configured for the production sites. Just in case if the main production servers that contain all the important data on the virtual machines on VMware or Hyper-V or any other physical machine are lost due to an unprecedented disaster like a power outage, an organization’s business continuity is severely affected and incurs huge losses.
In most of the cases, the off-site copy of the backup data should be maintained in a different location from where the production servers are present. This is because the data would be available on a different location even when the on-site copy of the backed up data gets affected due to an unexpected disaster.
That’s where the Vembu BDR Suite will serve the purpose. There is a separate option to enable an additional copy in an off-site location which is depicted below.
After configuring this option, apart from the copy of backup data that is being stored in the on-site location, you will have an off-site copy stored either in a different location or to the cloud. Users will be able to configure any of the two options based on their convenience.
You now would have got a clear understanding of how backing up your business-critical data will in an off-site location forms a crucial part of your business continuity plan. For more information on detailed configuration steps on how to configure the off-site copy management option, click here.
