Welcome to the Exam Study tips for the DP-900 exam, Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals. This article describes my experience with the exam and gives you advice to prepare yourself well for this exam.
Who is the exam for?
The Microsoft Azure DP-900 Data Fundamentals exam is particularly useful for:
- Beginners in the IT sector who are interested in starting their journey into the world of data services. The DP-900 is a foundational exam providing a solid foundation for understanding core data concepts
- Professionals seeking to transition into data-focused roles, such as data analysts, data scientists, or data engineers. The exam covers key concepts and services to these roles, including Azure data services, relational and non-relational data, and data analytics
- IT professionals already working with Azure who want to expand their skill set and understanding of the platform’s data services. This might include developers, administrators, or architects who work with data in some capacity and want to validate their knowledge
- Job seekers looking to make their resumes more attractive to potential employers. Microsoft certifications are widely recognized and respected in the industry, and having the DP-900 certification can demonstrate to employers that you have a verified understanding of critical data concepts and Azure data services
- Students and educators in IT-related fields might find the DP-900 beneficial for enhancing their understanding of data fundamentals in cloud computing
In essence, the DP-900 exam is helpful for anyone interested in data services, particularly within the context of the Azure platform, regardless of their current role or level of experience
If you pass the DP-900 exam, you have earned the Azure Data Fundamentals certification. It’s an important (first) step for those interested in working with data in the Cloud, and it can serve as a foundational certification for further specialized Azure certifications
DP-900 Exam
This exam will be renewed in late February. The exam consists of the following topics :
- Describing core data concepts (15-20%)
- Describing how to work with relational data on Azure (25-30%)
- Describing how to work with non-relational data on Azure (25-30%)
- Describe an analytics workload on Azure (25-30%)
As you can see from the list above, the focus is on how to work with data using the Cloud.
Exam Format
The exam includes :
- One or more case studies, each with multiple questions
- Single and multiple-choice questions
- Drag and drop questions
In my experience, you cannot scroll back to previously answered questions during the exam. So make sure you do time management during the exam. You also get points for each correct answer to some questions, even if you get part of it wrong.
You will be given between 40 and 60 questions and must get a minimum score of 700 to pass. You will have 150 minutes to do this.
My Personal Experience
I recently renewed the DP-900 again. Of course, I respect the NDA and can’t share specific confidential information. But some things I can share.
