In today’s world, Business Data is the core of every organization and it is important to make sure all the Data is highly available and protected at all times. In any environment, data needs to be protected against the hardware failures, Human error or the natural disasters. Over the years, many backup Solution vendors have evolved in the market, However it is extremely important to choose a solution that will fit into the requirements of your organization and make your data available when needed. Vembu BDR Suite is one such solution that offers Backup and Disaster Recovery(BDR) solution to cater the data protection needs of every business. Regardless of the size and the type of IT environment (Physical/Virtual/Both), the integrated suite of Vembu products protects the business data and makes it available at critical times ensuring the Business continuity of your IT operations.
Why is Offsite-Copy Important?
Generally, organizations implementing the Backup solution for their environment store the back data in their own-site (onsite). But what if a disaster strikes or your entire site gets affected? When that happens, all the data that you have taken backup and stored in your own site become worthless. And, you will face a huge financial loss as well as you will be stuck in a situation where you will no longer continue your business without regaining your business critical data. Vembu helps the businesses to handle such situations and safeguard their data by sending a copy of the backup data to an offsite location. This is made possible with Vembu’s Offsite-Copy feature. Vembu clearly understands the need for an offsite copy for every business and provides a solution for their needs by incorporating the offsite copy feature in the Vembu BDR Suite.
Thus, it is extremely important to make sure that your organization has offsite copies of your backup along with the onsite backups. Having an offsite copy means copying your entire backup data from onsite and storing it in a remote location which is physically separated from your primary location. This is referred as the Disaster Recovery (DR) location and holds a copy of your backup data. Hence to ensure business continuity during disasters multiple copies of backup data are stored in different locations.
Now, let’s take a look at the Vembu Offsite-copy Feature.
Vembu provides various offsite storage options which are listed below. Organizations can implement any of these offsite options which suit your environment.
Own Data Center (offsite)
In situations like the master backup server (onsite backup server) is inaccessible due to reasons like disaster or hardware failure then businesses would face a huge loss. To alleviate such risks, Vembu provides OffsiteDR server setup using which the backup data from the onsite BDR server can be replicated to the OffsiteDR server through LAN/WAN. The recovery options and the performance of Vembu OffsiteDR server is similar to that of Vembu BDR Server. Even if the main server got crashed or corrupted, it can be completely recovered from the DR server, also it is possible to rebuilt the Primary server again with the help of the data from OffsiteDR server. This results in reduced downtime and high availability.
Vembu Cloud
Organizations which cannot host an offsite server can choose Vembu Cloud. Enabling CloudDR option let the users to replicate the entire data from the Vembu BDR Server to Vembu Cloud residing on Amazon Web Services (AWS). In case of backup server crash or hardware failure or any other disaster, the replicated data can be restored from the Vembu Cloud anywhere anytime. The Backup Data replicated from BDR server to Vembu Cloud is highly secured with AES-256 algorithm both on the fly and rest.
Tape Storage
Tape Storage is one of the popular choices to retain the backup data for a longer term and for complying many backup regulations. This is because storage cost of Tapes is lower per TB and it is much more reliable in term of archival. So in such cases, organizations decide to have an additional copy of your data (either secondary or tertiary copy) on a storage media like Tape. Hence to meet those needs, Vembu provides Native Tape Backup Support. This lets you store a copy of your Image-based backup like VMware backup, Hyper-V backup and Physical Windows server backup on Tape media, thereby providing a secure and reliable access to the data during the disaster. You will able to download the backup data from Tape medias in different virtual file formats and use it for recovery purposes.
Previously, having an offsite copy was an optional but now it is becoming an essential thing. Thus, organizations can use the flexible offsite options of Vembu for being always available. With Vembu Offsite Copy feature, create and store multiple copies of backups on a different media at different locations and it also lets the organizations implement the best known 3-2-1 backup strategy of having 3 copies of your data in 2 different storage media and 1 backup copy offsite.
