It’s here & official. VMware Live Replication feature for Vembu BDR will be available in our next immediate release, BDR v3.0. This asynchronous replication is built on top of our patent-pending Power Replication™ technology which ensures ultra fast data transfer from host server to DR server.
VMs can now be replicated for failover disaster recovery purposes within 15 minutes. Since the files are natively replicated as VMDK file formats, it can be brought up and running on the DR server within 15 minutes. Simple, straight and easy. All for just $20 / month for 2 sockets and unlimited VM backups.
By the way, all these transactions are application aware. While we replicate the VMs, we also ensure that all transactions are committed to the database making sure there is no corrupted application data. With our next release, Vembu BDR is also announcing granular recovery tools for Exchange, SQL, Active Directory and SharePoint and hence you can recover only the mails / files you want. Did we miss any applications here??
An interesting fact about Power Replication™ technology is that we can maintain high data integrity between source and destination hosts. Therefore, it is possible to have an identical ESX server that allows hands-free disaster recovery.
Recovery time and usability of VMs for production deployments plays a vital role when deciding between VMware replication with VMware backup. VM replication allows the VMs to be used for production from the DR server in case of disaster (Failover). VM Backup is typically used for backing up the VMs to destination backup server storage and in the event disaster should allow restoring the data to production infrastructure.
Vembu BDR’s Power Replication™ technology is the first step towards achieving Failover and Failback replication for VMware environments.
What is Failover and Failback?
When we encounter software or application failure in the target machine, we can failover to identical virtual machines present in the replication ESX server. Maintenance of up-to-date data in our replicated virtual machine allows users to access the data, so that they may continue working on sensitive applications without experiencing any downtime. All this results in improved RTO and RPO.
Users also have the option to manage failover to replicated virtual machines based on need. Failovers can be temporary or permanent based on users’ choice. The target server maintains similar configuration to the source server, allowing users to experience similar performance as that of the source machine.
