While virtualization is becoming increasingly popular, we should understand that physical environment has not completely disappeared from the IT infrastructure as the latter is still being used as per the firm’s IT requirements. Brandon Lee’s article, “Vembu BDR Suite Protecting Virtual and Physical Servers” asserts the fact that a backup solution should cater to both virtual and physical environments and how Vembu is able to deliver the same through its offering, Vembu BDR Suite
Brandon Lee begins his article by stating that physical servers are still needed for business critical & legacy applications and how Vembu BDR Suite is able to provide Backup & DR for Virtual environment, Physical environment, SaaS & MS applications. The author provides the steps to download the client installer for Vembu ImageBackup, a product exclusively for Physical environments. Brandon comments that the entire installation process is easy and intuitive and proceeds with the configuration process where the first step involves the volumes to be selected, we wish to include in the backup job. The subsequent step involves the configuration of scheduling options and then the retention settings are set, later which the backup job is run. Post Backup, there are various options to recover and mount in the console. The backed up data can be stored in various formats like VHD, VMDK, VHDX, VMDK-flat as well as RAW format. The performance of Vembu ImageBackup as per the author is quite impressive. Quick Backups with the lesser load on CPU were few of the highlights of the performance testing done by the author in his lab environment. Brandon in his closing lines states that Vembu providing Backup & Recovery for both virtual & physical servers can be of great business value for firms with multiple requirements.
