Back in 2012, Amazon revolutionized cloud storage with the introduction of Amazon Glacier, a storage service that optimizes infrequently used data or cold data. Amazon Glacier provides extremely low cost options for user data stored over the cloud.
With Amazon Glacier, user data which isn’t used often can be stored cost-effectively for a really long period of time. Just think about it. If the size were in TBs, it would cost a fortune for users, forcing them to store in a physical environment or worse, delete the data altogether.
Consider a scenario where a Vembu user chooses to keep 2 full backups and when a 3rd full backup is made the 1st old full backup will get wiped out automatically. In this case, if the user enabled Glacier, the 1st full backup will be moved to Glacier from s3 and stored there for a low cost.
