Clustering and Load Balancing
Vembu recognizes the need of Small and Medium Businesses that run critical data centers, and is prepared to meet their data protection needs with server clustering techniques to simplify and scale their architectural setups. For Service Providers, who manage complex data centers and provide rapid services in time of server crashes of their clients, Vembu offers a Cluster Deployment solution. Vembu BDR supports installing multiple Vembu BDR Server instances (Nodes) in a cluster to provide load balancing of the clients. As per the load balancing algorithm Backup and Restore requests from the client machines are directed to one of the cluster Nodes. The backup server instances(Nodes) can be scaled up or down based on the capacity at runtime. The Nodes share a common RDBMS database and a common backup storage as well.

How it works:
The illustration below shows how a new client machine registers with the Backup Server cluster and initiates its backup.
- Each Vembu BDR Backup Server instance consists of Vembu BDR Web Server and the Vembu BDR Application
- The Vembu BDR Web Server by default listens and connects on port number 6060 (and 6061 if HTTPS is enabled) and addresses the Web Service requests from the clients
- The Vembu BDR Application listens on port 32004 (and 32007 if SSL is enabled) and accepts the backup and restore requests from the clients
- The Vembu BDR Application of each Backup Server instance accesses a common RDBMS database and a common backup storage
- When backup load increases, the backup requests will be equally shared between each backup servers according to the resource requirements
- This enables the Vembu BDR Backup Server instances running on different systems to share the backend database, maintains the load balancing and serve the backup/restore requests of the Vembu BDR clients independently
