Basic Components
- Vembu BDR Backup Server
- Hyper-V host
- Backup Proxy
- Storage Repository
The components mentioned above are essential to perform backup and restore processes with the Hyper-V Virtual Machines. From the Vembu BDR backup server, you can directly integrate to the Hyper-V host.
Vembu BDR Backup server is best when deployed on a physical machine, to utilize functionalities such as QVR, Image Integrity. Do not have the BDR Backup server deployed on the hypervisor host itself.
You can configure backups from your VMBackup client or directly from the Vembu BDR backup server.
There are no limitations in the Hyper-V host added to the Vembu BDR backup server, it can either be Standalone Hyper-V host or Hyper-V Cluster or SMB server
Vembu BDR backup server establishes the communication with Hyper-V host through the port number 42005
Communication with StandAlone Hyper-V Host
- Check for the connectivity between Standalone Hyper-V host and Vembu BDR Backup server before you configure the backup job, You can either backup an individual VM or an entire Hyper-V host.
- Vembu Integration service agent will be installed in the Target Hyper-V Host
Communication with Hyper-V Cluster
- Check for the connectivity between Vembu BDR Backup server and Hyper-V Cluster, you can configure backup for individual VM in the Cluster node or the entire node. You can also configure the backup job for multiple nodes in the cluster
- Vembu Integration service agent will be installed in each node under the target Hyper-V Cluster
Communication with SMB server
- Once connectivity is established between Vembu BDR Backup server and the target Hyper-V Host. Vembu Integration service agent will be installed in the Standalone Hyper-V server.
- In case of SMB, VIS is installed in the corresponding File server so that we can track the disk changes via CBT.
