Network Mode (NBD)
- The least preferred data transport mode, Vembu BDR backup server utilizes the NBD (network block device) or NBDSSL (encrypted) for data transfer. In Network mode, backup data will be retrieved from the ESXi host over a LAN network. The Network mode will be selected for the data transfer when the ESXi host uses a local storage.
- Vembu BDR backup server utilizes two other methods such as Direct Storage Access and Virtual Appliance reason being it is LAN-free, unlike network mode.
Working -
- The backup job is triggered from the Vembu BDR backup server and a initiation is sent to the Vembu backup proxy that the backup process is taking place.
- The Vembu backup proxy then request the ESXi host to fetch and locate the details of the VM from the datastore.
- The ESXi host fetches the details of the VM (meta data) and sends it back to the backup proxy via a LAN network.
- The backup server backups the data from the source and sends it to the backup repository over the same LAN network.
