Data Encryption Management

Backups configured from the BDR Backup Server can be encrypted with a user-defined password which can be provided during backup configuration. You can choose between - System Generated password or from the list of user-defined passwords.

  • From the Management tab, select the Data Encryption option. You can add and manage multiple encryption passwords in the Encryption Setting page.
  • You can search for a particular password hint from the list of password hints using the Search option.

Steps to add Encryption Password

  • Click +Add Password. In the pop-up window that appears, enter the desired password and enter again to confirm the password.
  • Provide a password hint to identify it separate from other available passwords. Click Save once done adding the password.

Information Note:

Password and its hint should not be the same to avoid security issues. encryption hint should be at least 6 characters and not more than 25 characters. Encryption hints are unique and no two passwords can have the same encryption hint

Vembu BDR Suite uses the industry-standard AES - 256 encryption algorithm to encrypt your backup data

Follow the steps below to enable encryption while configuring backups:

  • Proceed with the backup configuration of your choice till backup 'scheduling' and proceed with Next to Settings Page. Select the Enable Encryption check-box. Choose a password of your own between - System Generated password or User-defined password.

  • You can create a new password by selecting the Add Password option.

Information Note:

By default, Vembu VMware backup uses the system-generated password to encrypt backups even if Encryption is disabled. You can opt to a custom password for extended data protection and you will be required to provide it during recovery. Opting to the custom password will disable integrity checks from being performed automatically. It is recommended to perform Quick VM Recovery periodically to ensure data integrity

Information Note:

Password and its hint should not be the same to avoid security issues. The Password should contain at least a character, a number, and a special character [! @ # $ % ^ & *] .Encryption hint should be at least 6 characters and not more than 25 characters. Encryption hints are unique and no two passwords can have the same encryption hint

  • Provide the password and encryption hint of your choice. Once you have completed configuring the Encryption Password, click Save. Click the Clear option if you want to clear out the Password and Encryption hint.

By default, the Encryption Setting will be disabled
